Bad memories from 10 years ago when I spent a lotta time working on
software.

OTOH in the last couple weeks, I've seen one ship off on patrol and
another one off on a resupply cruise, spent a few days sailing my toy
boat, had an excavator dig 100 metres of trench for my barn and done
most of the forming up for the footings, sunk a few jugs of margaritas
& beers with friends back from a long cruise, and flown off to see my
kids.

Nothing is happening here so 1% of my attention is about right.

Perfect fishing pond I swear!

Nah. Boring.

Barn? pole barn, cinder blocks, steel?

I'm doing a job that requires working everyday. It really
sucks!

I can't imagine why I should *try* to troll, Bobspit apparently gets
some sort of perverse satisfaction from doing it; I don't want to join
his club.

Howq much land do you have Peter, and what
sort of crops/livestock?

In Tasmania I've got 3.5 acres on the water. No crops as such, just a
lot of fruit trees for domestic consumption & trading for other stuff I
haven't time/interest in growing. As for livestock, why bother when the
wildlife is so prolific and the fishing in the bay so good.......

I have a 600 acre place in NSW. Used to run cattle, now I just grow
trees. Boats are more interesting.

What sort of trees are you growing in NSW?

I'm thinking about starting a tree farm here. I like
the idea of planting them and then just waiting. Not
much work involved after the initial start up.

Timber frame, steel cladding/roof.

That's true. I do my best to avoid it. Which is why I got to spend my
'free' time debugging ship software systems via cellphone and INMARSAT
when I should have been drinking last night....... hardware failure of
a GPS after a bad gale somewhere arounf 64S. Got 2 others aboard but no
techs on that ship ATM so explaining how to patch the data thru from
the backup unit got a bit interesting.

Oh well. No point making the system completely idiot proof, then
there'd be no need for idiots like me to go play nursemaid.

Your sailing weather must be getting close now. I'm about to do some
more mods to my toy boat rig, see what happens. Having a workshop 100m
from where the boat sits saves a lotta time.

yeah, one is anyway... Schoonertrash is still floating around on a big
ship delivering ordinance to our fine fighting force in Iraq. Not sure
that fits anyone's idea of cruising.

Barb and I are enjoying our third season cruising Mexico, thinking
about making a plan to expand our horizons next season. Getting tired
of tequila, thinking about going to Rum country or somewhere they chew
betel nuts. Happen to be in a marina at the moment, with wifi on the
boat, thought I'd check in and say hi!

Best to all our old virtual friends!

Hey Mike~ Barb,

Nice to here from you.

Out in the middle of any ocean on any vessel is crusing to IMO.

You coming thru the canal or going around to rumland?

Whats in Barra de Navidad? Beside you.

Well, I just finished a lenghty blurb about all the wonderful aspects
of Barra de Navidad when our good friend Bonnie stopped by for a visit
and said Nooooooo!!!! Don't tell them...

So, sorry folks. If you want to know why this is our third season in
Barra, you will just have to sail here and find out for yourself.

Lovin' life in Barra,

So just because I've pegged you as a trouble maker and flamed you, you are
crying out for Capt. Mooron's support? Bwawhawhahwhahwahaaaa!

What a sissy you turned out to be, Joe. I used to like you, regardless of
your incompetence. Next time I meet another luser like you on the streets,
I won't be an angel...or co-dependent as Crantz would say...

I've recently been in the hospital for Ovarian cancer, with no one to help
me with my teenage sons. (My mother was killed by a drunk driver when I was
in my teens, my father deserted me shortly after I was born. I have no
family except a grandmother that is basically another child to me)

When I asked for help from a sailor, he ran like lightning, so I had to
check myself out of the hospital within 4 hours after a major surgery.
(stupid, but neccessary) even though I was back in the wee hours of the
morning with a major relapse. Tough as I am, I was out in a few hours and
changed my own bloodied bandages.

I've grown up being a fighter...maybe that's why a top Fortune 200 company
keeps me on their vendor list? Among others...

What I learned from my experience was..."when the going gets tough, the
sailor guys go cruising".

Perfect fishing pond I swear!

You're just a tiny perch in the cycle of life...

In my opinion, he is one of the top 3 entertaining posters in this group,
especially when he's been drinking. :-)

Sorry to here of the cancer problems, thoses teen age boys should be
helping you, not vice versa.

Thanks, Joe. Mys Terry is lucky to have you. I bet you wouldn't have took
off cruising if she was in the hospital.

It doesn't have anything to do with not helping. If I would have left them
at home alone, the Dept. of Human Services would remove them from my home
and put them in foster care.

As a matter of fact, just the short trip (30 minute) from the hospital, I
had a bandage on my incision that was about 3 inches thick of gauze, which
totally leaked through on my clothes. I tried to get my oldest to help me
change my bandages since I was on strong painkillers, but he just could
stomach all the bleeding. Some people just can't, people who can, do.

The best sign of success with a fortune 100 company is not remaining
on a vendors list. It's calling someone you know there and dangle a
carrot in front of them that they will be happy to pay you 40,000 +
dollars for.. And knowing they will make a 100 times back what they
paid you.

Very true!

Being on a vendors list is nothing. Cash from them is everything. SHOW
ME THE MONEY!

They direct deposit in two days, a couple of times this week, as a matter of
fact.

Life is full of lessons. Not all sailors run from committment. Most
judge the winds and commit to the most pleasureable course.

Seems that some people are selfish and only want to please themselves.

Perch are good fish...... tasty, fast, colorful, good fighters.

Yep, I like perch and most seafood.
