Ablative bottom paints
The point of ablative is that the oxide is in the paint and does not
leach out. If you have paint, you have protection. This is true even when you haul your boat out and leave it on the hard for a long time. Also, with ablatives you don't need to sand it off when you repaint. On the other hand, the non ablatives work better while there are working but you do have to sand it off or it will build up fast each year. I have ablative petitt on my boat. I'll put on just about anything that is on sale though because it all works well. My paint before that (1991) was Micron 44 and the last coat of that lasted 5 years but its to harsh on mother earth and you can't get it anymore - ah, days gong by - Anyway, I haul my boat for summer each year and touch it up each fall. I've always had a clean bottom in the florida bays which is a hard thing to do. |
