Nothing to plunder ?

Bull****! Someones going to get his pockets plundered.

Most likely an over forty victim of fate.

Nice boat, I like the galley layout!

"Jimmy Buffet's ex-yacht" yeah right. How much dope do you
have to smoke before you'd believe that?

Jimmy Buffet spends most of his money on antique airplanes,
although he has owned at least one sailboat... it was a
Herreshoff, not a Taiwan leaky-teaky.

I always assumed the nickname "leaky-teaky" referred to the
deck, ports, & hatches, which are often very fancy wood &
often put together with quite excellent craftmanship, but
with nails and/or bathtub caulk etc etc. I feel that I can
use the term "leaky-teaky" without fear of being accused of
prejudice because we own one... I am in the finishing stages
of taking off a beautiful but very impractical teak deck...
caught it just in the nick of time since there were only a
few small bad spots in the cored fiberglass deck structure.

Another issue with those series is that the Taiwanese were
notorious for stealing designs. William Garden & Robert
Perry have both complained that their designs were used but
never paid for.

OK, maybe it really was Jimmy Buffet's boat. Does that make
it worth $3 mill?

No, it isn't prejucicial. My friend John sailed a brand new Hylas 49 and it
leaked. Early boats had an issue with the sealant quality, can't figure out
what the excuse would be for newer boats. Ditto for the splashing business.
BTW, you've been offshore, you know that while teak decks are very hot in
the tropics and rather a pita re/maintenance, they are extremely practical.
Best non-skid you could ever ask for.

Long history of that, but not limited to the Taiwanese. Hans Christian's
design for their 38 was stolen and produced by a disgruntled former employee
under the Union 36 moniker, at least until HC sued them for specific action
(cease and desist). And today China reproduces nearly every piece of the
free world's software, DVDs, and CDs without license. Not to mention Rolex
and just about every other high-end Swiss watch. Yet we still trade with
them as if nothing is amiss. Oh, except the rather skewed trade imbalance.

Less than 10% of that, actually. (IMO)
