Tired of sailing
After being a sailing fanatic for 30 years of so, I'm suddenly bored with
it. Is this normal? Might even sell the boat. |

Sorry to hear that. In my world there is a standard comment: He has stopped sailing - the service were nice. I can not imagine being bored with sailing, but then - I don't know how to do anything else to my own satisfaction. I've been at it a little less than twice that. Katy,
He may just need a NEW BRAIN! I was Going to say head but he's so FOS and Scotty would mis-interpret it! G-G; After 58 years I've put my boat up for sail, reluctantly but my sense of balance is no longer what it should be and as I approach 80 years, I've decided to beach myself. Ole Thom |

I got rid of the boat bunnies a long time ago...all those little round pellets rolling around to get smashed under the teak grate, ya know.... |

To determine if your boredom is normal you must determine the cause.
Is it because sailing no longer fullfills what you initially desired? Have the waterways become so crowded and stressful that the cost outweighs the benefit? Are you coming down with some type of disease that is affecting your mental state? Have you read too many Capt RB posts? If you are willing to give some more information, the cause may be worked out. Amen! |

Maybe you should try something different: sail to a different destination, crew on a totally different type boat, design a new suit of sails for your boat, lots of challenges out there. ...Might even sell the boat. Go ahead. If "the boat" is the focus of your interest, then no wonder you're bored. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I've had some boring sails ( little or no wind, nowhere to go ).
Just makes me look forward more to the next one. Scotty "Matt Colie" wrote in message ... G&g Sorry to hear that. G&G wrote: After being a sailing fanatic for 30 years of so, I'm suddenly bored with it. Is this normal? It is for some people. All those abandoned boats in the backlots of marinas are a testament to that. Many, if not all, of the ones for sale on yachtworld.com are as well. Personally I think I personify the old adage that 'a bad day of sailing is way better than a great day at work.' I've sailed since my pre-teens and have never grown tired or bored of it. If you have, perhaps you should get out of sailing for a while to see if you really have any residual interest. If not, you're where you need to be. If you do, you'll have to acquire another boat, which is not a problem with all the boats on the market these days. One other suggestion--you could try another aspect of sailing, say, for example, racing, if you haven't done so yet. Or cruising, if you've only been sailing round the marks on weekends. Nice thing about sailing is that it's as multifaceted as just about any activity. Max |
Tired of sailing
G&G,
I would rather be Bored on a sailboat than in front of a TV or Web Site or any other place I can think of. Nothing wrong with being bored. I've spent many, many boring hours hove-to with everything shut down just floating with my dog and a cold bottle (or Can) of Beer. It isn't easy to be bored when Harbor Seal investigate your drifting boat or Sea Gull sing to you. I've spent time talking to whales while just drifting. Try it; before you sell your boat. Go out and enjoy being BORED, You'll be surprised at how hard it is just to be Bored. It's all mental!! Learn to enjoy being with yourself. If you can't enjoy YOU then you have a real problem. In article ,
says... After being a sailing fanatic for 30 years of so, I'm suddenly bored with it. Is this normal? Might even sell the boat. What about a new hobby? Flying? Head down to your local field and check out a trial flight. Overall it's probably cheaper than sailing (unless you buy your own plane) and lots of fun. -- Duncan |

Try parachute jumping once or twice. Cleans out your head, you'll see
everything new and different. "G&G" wrote in message . .. After being a sailing fanatic for 30 years of so, I'm suddenly bored with it. Is this normal? Might even sell the boat. |

Actually bungee jumping works, and as a bonus you don't have to wonder why
you should jump out of a perfectly good plane. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "jlrogers" wrote in message . .. Try parachute jumping once or twice.
