Default Thomas Gets a Boat!

Nice looking dink for a blowup Rob.

Thom looks like he's a handfull, better hide anything sharp.

What motor are you putting on it?

As soon as I inflated the dink, Thom threw his toys in it! He's a
handful, but so happy and good natured...it's just amazing fun to spend
time with him.
I have a new 4HP I won at the Norwalk boat show, which I'm about to
trade for either a 6 or 8 HP. I like the 6 and 8 because they can get
the dinghy to plane...or semi plane. The smart move would be to keep
the 4 for it's small size and weight...but that's no fun!

I hear you, I have a 6 for my dink and it will not get it up on plane.
Had a nice 15 hp but someone stole it while we were on a regetta and
broke the mounts trying to get it off the dink.

If I were you Id get a 25 hp. Gets 4 adults up on plane, great for
running up to resturants while anchored out.

How long is it, How heavy is it, how small does it fold?
Do they have a way of putting a steering console on it?
You gettings davits?

The 5 HP got the old Quicksilver 300 (9'10) on a plane with just me in
it. I had to lean forward a bit and then it would skate along at around
13-15 knots. I don't want to deal with a huge heavy motor, so the 6 or
8 seems to make sense. No davits for the 35s5. It's an airdeck dinghy
and fits in the starboard lazerette deflated. This particular model is
9'5 and weighs 77 lbs. I doubt this dink could handle much more than
9.9Hp, which what I think it's rated for. My old Quicksilver was rated
for 15HP.

Oh OK, I forgot, with the swiming platform you cant use a davit.
And no since in having a proper steering console on a dink if you have
to stuff it in a locker all the time.

15 HP aint much for 4 NYers and a kid IMO.

A few 35s5's had davits, but it's not something we need. 5 hp on the
previous dink worked fine with 3-4 adults. No planning, but what's the
hurry? I'll buy either a 6 or 8 HP so it's not a drag to lug around. 15
HP is crazy to have on a 35 foot sailboat. I don't think I've ever seen
a small sailboat carry such a large dingy motor.
