Only in an astronomy textbook.

OTOH here's a really cool item... think I'll bid on this one!

And it's in Texas, hey Joe would you go look it over for me?

That's a deal, if I get the boat at my price ;)

Take a close look at the carbon fiber mast, these babies are
real expensive to replace.

The ad says 'Houston' which covers a lot of ground. I put in
a bid, we'll see what happens.

Bet it would leave a French 35s5 in it's wake. Good Luck.

Yep, under jib alone.

Actually, this a bit more boat than I want right now. These
things are awesome, we saw a few sailing at a regatta up on
the Chesapeake... leaving the sports boats & cats behind...
according to the numbers this thing is faster in than
anything in it's size range short of a Grand Prix multi...
but if the guy will take my offer and the trailer can be
dragged to NC without sinking money into new wheels,
bearings, etc etc, then I'll take it just for the fun.

I'm actually more interested in a 29 foot sportsboat that's
closer to home (also on a trailer) but we'll see how this
offer pans out.

If I had any sense I'd just get a Laser or one of those
Swift Solos!

Nah, they're twins. Very cool boat though.

Besides, I don't like bidding on military stuff, they tend
to ride stuff *really* hard and put it up wet.

It's what we call a star globe. The Navy navigation school here in
Victoria has hundreds. Every warship has a couple. It just make
shooting stars easier. If I remember correctly you just set the LHA of
Aries on the equator and the star is a bearing and elevation. It helps
with the lesser used navigation stars.

They are very common (English ones) but kind of funky. The box one the
ones I have used is mahogany, the moving parts are brass and the globe
is kind of a pressed paper thing.

Doug,

Your abilities allow you to outsail a particular 35s5 by standing in a large
styrofoam cooler with a bedsheet as a sail.

Amen!

I just don't get this kind of flattery home! Thanks!

Maybe we should propose this as the new Olympic one-design
class? It would be fun to watch and open to a much wider
range of participant... what would you suggest as a sail logo?

One of the many naturally occuring bedsheet stains, of course!

One benefit may be the olfactory tell tale properties of a properly stained
sheet.

Amen!

Unfortunately I just got an email from the seller, turning
down my offer on the 1D-35.

Oh well, there's LOTS of boats out there for sale, including
one of mine.

Thats to bad.. it's a cool little boat.

I think we have one on a trailor here on the other side of the marina.
Haven't seen it move in a year or so.

Joe
