Getting ready for winter
This is the time of year, as a sailor ,I dont like. Friday I repacked all
the sails and stored them .Saturday , bought a large tarp and bungees. Today, I plan on packing the boat , putting on the tarp and parking it in the back of the lot till the end of February when we start all over . Here in central Ohio it's usally cold with a little snow. Last year we had so much rain that our docks almost floated off the pilings, had to add extensions to the top of the pilings and post a watch so we could get the docks back down on the pilings once the water started to drop. All a part club membership, some great parties too. Check out the web site http://www.alumcreeksailing.com/ACSAmain.aspx there are pics of the flood , some racing, a Mac 26 with a broken mast, some pretty neat stuff, actually you can see ME sailing on MY boat but thats all we can do around here in the winter, look at pics. Have a great day! They're bound to get better when it starts warming up in a couple months. JB |

However, a few years ago I discovered the joys of winter sailing. I only get a couple of days on the water in winter, but they tend to be better than the best summer days. Winter brings empty seas and almost infinite visibility ... There is nothing like a crisp February day on an empty sea. Regards Donal -- |

How cold does it get there? Below freezing?

The conditions that I am thinking of have a nightime temp of -4C and a daytime max of about 6C. We scrub the decks with a stiff brush to remove the ice/frost before we set sail. These days are absolutely wonderful... the sense of desolation is amazing. Regards Donal -- |

My God! only 8 hours of daylight!
Can you imagine living even farther north? A swedish girl I dated told me she would walk home from parties at 3am and the sun would just be going down in the summer. They must only a very few hours of daylight during the winter. I'd go insane. It is no wonder they all head south when they can. "Donal" wrote "Bart Senior" .@. wrote in message ... Getting ready for winter
Yellowknife in Dec/Jan ...sunrise at 1100hrs and sunset at 1400hrs. The sun
just skirts the southern horizon. They call it "cabin fever" by February. [SADS] Yellowknife in June/July.... walk out of the bar at 0200hrs and realize you are hammered drunk in broad daylight... again. CM "Bart Senior" .@. wrote in message ...
