A good portion of the Japanese Army in WWII came from a medieval culture.
Their Officer Corps was in no way as cultured and refined as the US, Britian
or Germany. Look at what they did to China and Korea.

I had never heard of Japanese cannibalism but, apparently, it wasn't all
that uncommon. The major reason was as a prevention of starvation, but it
wasn't the only reason.
