Is the 35s5 a Rocket

Well, perhaps not...compared to a 36.7 which is a faster boat....

But the 36.7 also has no real swim platform, a cabin that can't compare
at all and fit and finish also trailing. We looked the 36.7 and there
was no doubt that as a family boat the 35s5 simply did more and was
still very fast.

James, don't let the ratings fool you. We've beaten 36.7's boat for
boat on several occasions. Upwind it's neck and neck, downwind the 36.7
is a faster boat for sure. But the margins are small enough that on any
given day we'll take a 36.7 to windward well enough to hold a win.
They're both great boats if you like to sail fast.

So, if the 36.7 is a rocket, then the 35s5 must be a "slightly slower"
rocket! I'll take that small loss in speed and keep our swim platform
for Thomas, the nicer cabin by far and a savings of about 35K. From
what I now know, I simply don't fully trust the latest boats from
Beneteau.

tsk, tsk, tsk, backing down already, Bob. You don't even own
the boat yet and your making excuses for it. I really hope you're
not too disappointed with her.

Why would you be? Let's see: 35s5, predecessor to the 36s7, relatively
fast, weatherly, not bad downwind, a bit tender, decent interior, if a bit
smallish, attractive, Beneteau quality and construction, which is better
than either Hunter or Catalina despite what others here seem to believe.
Sounds like a winner to me, albeit not the boat I'd care to own. As you
probably can't afford a J120, this is a decent alternative.

J120 is a bit much for us as we do plan to buy a liveaboard next. The
C&C 99 was another frontrunner, but smaller below. The First series fit
and finish is better than a new 36s7, but the 35s5 faulters downwind
without careful attention. Most folk prefer the helm of the 35s5
upwind. The 35s5 was Beneteau's most expensive boat per foot, probably
too much so at the time when you could buy other good boats for less.
The designer interior, pricey steering system and rig were culprits.
Many were raced hard. We found two good ones near us, but the interiors
had taken a beating. Then we found a creampuff in Florida which
surveyed out like a new boat. She'll be in NY (with a little luck) the
day before Thanksgiving!

How much are you gonna spend trucking that thing to New York?

Ever consider a professional delivery Captain? I might be available.
Just think. Would you rather have some alcoholic truck driver in charge
or a sober, experienced professional sea captain?

. . . eye of the beholder, and all that. There are a few around here, and
while I don't think they are the prettiest boats Chantiers Beneteau ever
built, they are far from unattractive. At least IMO. There's a 26X on the
lake where we sail, and we refer to it as "the sailtruck."

Shows what you know about sailing - about as much as Booby.

The rum consumption was while I was tied up to the mangroves
or anchored for the night en-route and returning. Every real sailor
has a snort of rum from time to time. And, besides when it comes to
drinking you consume more in a week than I do in a month.

Hahahaaa. You wrote it on Usenet, it must be true! So in other words your
a sissy sailor and I can drink a few beers once or twice a week and drink
you under the table?

Bwhahahahahaaaaa! I guess you weren't the manly man I once thought you
were.
