NW Sailing Weather

Temp @ 9:00AM 41 degrees F, Wind SE 7 Knots Humidity; Wet as Hell
(Raining)

I'm thinkinking of going for a morning sail, in the PH. Visibility isn't
that bad.

Not looking forward to handling wet sail covers but "what the hell" a
sail is a sail.

Scotty; I wasn't going to go until I read your post to Dave! That
little voice, in the old brain said;----"Let it begin with me!'

Then why do you bad-mouth my fine Hong Kong sails?

Enjoy, Thom. It won't be too much longer around here.

Neal,

I'm sorry about your HK sails. They really aren't up to the standard of
the better sail lofts but I've said that if they suit you, you really
got a bargain.

In my own mind, you got exactly what you paid for. Bargain sails.

Scott,

Didn't handle wet sail covers. Sailed on the head sail alone. Ah! the
joy of furler sails.

Actually cleared off and wind picked up some. No "white caps" so it did
stay pretty much below 10 knots. I was knocking on hull speed up wind
and reaching but downwind I had to head up to stay at 3 kn

Skies looked ugly while I was out and as the wind started clocking
around to the north I headed in. Had the bay to my self except for a Tug
with a pile driving barge.

A definite plus.

Thom, how high will your boat point under headsail alone?

Sounds like a great time. Did you have your 4 legged crew along?

Here it's a beautiful spring day. Not much wind though.

Doug,

You ask a very good question. I carry a 150% on the furler and have no
trouble making 45 degrees. When the wind picks up I will feather into
it, to reduce heel and I get well inside 45' but I'm slower in both
cases. Since I never race this way I can't tell you how much slower I
am. Just knocking about, I really don't care.

She is a good weather craft. I do give the Keel the credit for that.

In light air ( 4 and lower) she gets very heavy in the head and she
needs the main.

I've never tried to "cut a Card" for the difference. If I'm sailing that
way I'm not looking for speed and as long as I've got control (ability
to tack) couldn't care less.

Doug,

Yes, Dog was with me and got sick on the Settee, twice.

Since I was sailing in the PH, I did get it cleaned up quickly but it
was another reason to come in.

I don't think the Terrier is ever going to be a sailor.

That's good. A lot of boats won't get through irons under jib alone.
It's very good to have practiced this kind of sailing.

About the furry crew- don't worry. Relax, let the dog get comfortable on
the boat... it might be a good idea to simply spend time aboard at the
dock. Dogs are very perceptive and if you're worried, they will get upset.

We got lucky with our current dog. He jumps on & off the boat, seems to
consider it "just like home." Great companions.

So you consider your boat just like a doghouse?
