I agree, but the only power boats I like are tugs. I like them because
they're working boats. Ones like this would be fine for the time it takes to resell it. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Well most do...But Id love to have this one. http://www.peterkehoe.com/The_World.htm Joe |
Motorsail vessels are a combination that brings out the worst of both motor and sail. Either get a pure sailing vessel like Cut the Mustard or get a trawler. Any sailboat with a big diesel and a fixed, three-blade prop is a slowcoach and a poor compromise. That being said, once one admits his motorsailer is not a real sailboat one can then take advantage of the virtues of a motor boat and suffer the degradation to a real sailboat such virtues cause. Suck fuel, that is. About 150 gallons an hour.

I have to disagree with you slightly. Powerboats don't suck. But sometimes
powerboaters suck. They figure if they have a drivers license, then they know how to operate a boat. On average a sailboater knows more about boat handling and seamanship than the average powerboater. My favorite cruising ground can best be accessed by powerboat. Although I have cruised it with a sailboat (Catalina 320) I have charted large powerboats the past two times. I like powerboats, too. The size and comfort are nice. The noise while underway is annoying. Lonny -- Enjoy my new sailing web site http://sail247.com "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... ripping through, of course. L -- Enjoy my new sailing web site http://sail247.com "Capt. Neal®" wrote in message ... Priorities, priorities! A vessel without a shower that sails well is preferable to a vessel with a shower that sails poorly but motors well while making hot water. Well Bart 150 gallons an hour @70 knot for a 140+ft vessel is actually
very good. A standard quad screw 140 foot crewboat burns 140 gallons an hour @ 20kts Joe |

Yeah the Super Structure looks to your a peein to me.
Yet I like the 1" thick windshield and take a look at the main engine photo. I think that engine was developed for heavy lift helo's. I'd like to get a boat load of rich snobbish yacht club lubbers brats on board and take it out in the gulf in 12-15 foot seas. I could kill em all bounching them off the overheads and bulkheads. The whole boats interior would self destruct at 70 knots flying wave crest to wave crest. That would be a BLAST! Joe |
Why do you think it brings out the worst in both motor and sail?
I believe it brings out the best of both. Nothing wrong with a rock steady 8kt on any point of the compass. Most times the main is just above idle and you can not hear. If the wind is above 15 knots than I can make hull speed without main assist. I know the alure of pure sail and the benifits of no prop drag. But due to my current career and the high cost off communications I do not have the luxary of unscheduled trips. |

if you want to have flying fun try a beachcraft baron. http://sales.securityaviation.net/68Baron.html gf. |

I went from soaring at 260 kph to 5 kph in your vessel. yes a nice airplane
small.......fast a friend used to own one and we would fly up and down the hudson river within VFR, well below the top of the WTC (sometimes below the top of the palisades) doubt that's possible anymore. gf. Not anymore, unless you were someone that could get some kind of special clearance. I remember not long after 9-11, a pilot asked permission to circle the statue of liberty with some military personnel coming back from Iraq. I'm not sure what the altitude, but not exceptionally low and he was granted permission. The 9-11 lines became jammed and thought NYC was under another attack.
