Canada was loyal British held territory.... if you had lost the war of independence... you may have been annexed by the crown.... We were already colonies at that time... or do you mean the American colonies would have lost what little self-governance they already had? Then the French came to your rescue..... It's already been pointed out, the French had their own score to settle and we just piggybacked. Seems pretty obvious to me that the American colonies would not have remained subject to English rule for very long anyway. Too stubborn, too many foreigners, and too much religious resentment against the Church of England. If Washington and Franklin hadn't managed to slither out from under, the individual colonies would have required more and more troops to occupy & pacify... England would have gone bankrupt trying to hold on. The individual colonies would have declared independence and fought English troops, and probably each other, and not become a unified country for another 50 years if then. Meanwhile, then Napoleon would have held on to the Louisiana territories, and remained Emperor for another ten years, maybe more, maybe even established a dynasty. You can play wolrd history as you like from there. Regards Doug King |
