Telescopes - a sign of a sick society

I have been confused by the ever-increasing discussion of telescopes
here on this sailing group this past several months.

My confusion has ended because I have thought about it and have come
to the conclusion that telescopes represent a visible symptom of a sick society.
This may seem a somewhat radical thing to say but I have good reasons for it.
Read on . . .

We have become a peeping Tom society with the advent of the Internet,
cell phone cameras, cable TV, reality shows, surveillance cameras, mpegs, etc.
Too many people these days certainly are way, way too involved in snooping
vicariously into the lives of other people - all the while staying at a safe
distance and uninvolved.

Telescopes represent an extension of this perversity. Sick people looking
into the windows and lives of unsuspecting people and surveilling them.

Sad, so sad.

Only in your warped mind... man has always looked to the sky...after all, it
was the stars that he first navigated by..it is the moon that controls the
tides...it is the sun that makes life on the sea bearable...only a small
prurient mind would come up with the ideas you profess...

When people do this it is a sign of sickness, but when the government does
this it's for your own good?

Neal's a mental case. Just look at his posts. He has nothing

constructive to
say. He hates everyone. Yet, it curious that you continually respond

to him.

You sure, Jon? Look at his 'rule 13' thread. A genuine long sailing
(sorta) thread.

Filled with mis-information, which is directed at newbies. This is typical
hateful behavior. Very unsailorly.
