The key point is that it doesn't have a trailer. Kind of renders the
boat all but useless for it's intended purpose, and trailers are expensive.

OTOH the Mac 25 is a pretty good boat. They're fast and they're
practical. If you could find a cheap way to haul this one to the water,
and knew of a good cheap place to keep it docked or moored, it'd be nice
to pick up for a song.

It would be easy to spned 'way more fixing it up than it'll ever be
worth, though. New sails, for example....

Do you think there's any hardware on it worth salvaging? :-)

I've sailed on many a mac 25, I think that if you have a way to pick it up it's
worth every penny. It can be tough to find a set of sails for a good price,
however. Fast, comfortable and worry-free boat. It would be a good gift for a
son or nephew that is new to sailing and would help them to learn the value and
rewards of hard work...ie cleaning the damn thing!

Yeah, he discovered it was a Mac.

The seller says he bought it a month ago but has no way to pick it up. I
have
to think he had a plan when he bought it. Which leads me to believe he
found a
big problem.

Agreed. It'd be much better than, say for example, a Coronado 27...
trailerable, better built, shallower draft with the swing keel up, about
95% as roomy, and much faster.

Idiot. There are better starter boats that will cost less,

Ok big mouth, show us a better starter boat that costs less than $150.

not have a horrible
name like Mac or Siedlemann and not have a newbie hunting for cheap

parts.

My Cal 20 is a perfect example. It didn't take that much to make bring it
back to new condition, and it's far superior to a Mac. I wouldn't take it
offshore, as the demands of sailing on the bay are quite enough.

Really? I have a Mac25 (1987) for sale with sales, trailer and good engine.
Under 2K.
I assume you surveyed that boat and can beck up your ludicrous claim.
Face it. Neal was right.

The M25 is a nice little trailer-sailor, but it's not a boat one buys
just to brag about on the net.

Gotta use better bait on the hook with this lame trolling line.

Right. It's more like a boat to actually sail, and not worry about
making an impression (except on more pretentious boats it passes).

And Bubbles thinks that $2K is less than $170.
