I have been told that POR 15 " Rust preventative paint" works well on cast
iron and steel keels as a primer. Has anyone any experience of it please. best regards Craig --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.771 / Virus Database: 518 - Release Date: 28/09/04 |

I don't, but the prevailing wisdom here is that one should sand or wire brush the rusted areas to bare metal, and then apply several coats of zinc chromate primer. The first coat should go on within a couple of hours from the sanding or wire brushing. That's consistent with what we did back in my Navy days. I thought the traditional stuff for the navy boys was red lead, at least once upon a time it was, or did that go over top of the zinc chromate? |
