So Jon...Did she quit?

Your student that you felt would never ever get it?
Did she quit? Did you run her off?

Or can she now sail?

Amazingly, she's rented the boat several times. At one point, I was
down on the docks when she started out, and of course, she felt it
necessary to ask me some dumbass question... something about how to
tie up the boat. It was really pathetic, so I told her that she could
do it anyway she wanted as long as the boat didn't drift away. (This
is on a lake.) I think she got the message. :-) So far, she's gotten
the boat back every time.

This is your idea of good advice?

At this point in her sailing career, yes.
