You're too young to be such an old fogey, Wally!
This newgroup is amazing sometimes.

It's definitely Amaj. And, while Jimi's version is sine qua non, let's
don't forget The Leaves. Their version is, well, energetic, anyway.

Frank, a fully qualified Old Fogey

Old fogey, nowt - I strummed the chords and the Am stuck out like a jammed
winch handle on the leeward side when you want to tack in a hurry...

Music Machine (Talk,Talk) also covered it at a positively frenetic

Manic isn't everything, I'd give the nod to Roy Buchanan.

Well, you can roll off the diminished and it sounds good. I usually
hammer-on from a 7th every other measure just to help keep count... or
if you wanna be funky hit the 9th every 4th measure and then do 4 in bar
chords...

I think you mean a dirigible.

. . . which is an airship, is it not? If not, what's the difference?

A dirigible is an airship, but an airship is not necessarily a
dirigible. It's the same as saying hippos are mammals, but not all
mammals are hippopotamii.
