Ships of the line had 21 guns on each side. To salute, or to show
friendliness, a ship would fire off all 21 guns on the same side & just before of passing another ship. Therefore not allowing enough time to reload and fire upon the other ship. Scotty "Joe" wrote in message om... Anyone know? Where do you fly the flag on your boat in port? At sea? When should you fly your flag? Anyone know the orgin of a 21 gun salute? Why would you fly your flag upside down? Whats and ensign flown for, and when, and were? Joe |
