He is not a local but capable of finding online info about beautiful Kemah and the local area. If he was a local he would know who puts on the race. Not on line, not in the papers, just 20 years of tradition and all the locals on the lake know. Joe Some of us have to work for a living and don't get out as often as you do Joe. I think the Elissa Regatta was of more interest, and I do have experience working, crewing and sailing on the Elissa. Jim Sure you did jim. Did you see the fog horn I donated to the museam? Right of front, with a little brass plaque with my name on it. Joe No, I'm sorry but I didn't notice it, Joe. Did you see my name in the display of hull plate contributors? It's number 120 of 318. I called a buddy at the museam and he checked for me. So did you go aloft in brisk winds and walk out the foot ropes beneath the yardarms to furl or unfurl the upper topsail or T'Gallant? In the 80's they were begging me to get a sail endorsement to run as second skipper on her. I just did not have the time. 6 mo work for every day at sea just was to much to ask. I use to push all of Grasso fuel up and down the coast at the time. The Grasso dock is across from the Elissa on pelican isle. Joe Joe Jim |

No, I'm sorry but I didn't notice it, Joe. Looks like a box with a handle sticking out of it, vintage 1860's . The kids love it when it's bellows roar. I picked it up at a garage sell in galveston and really had no were to store it. Ebay did not exist at the time and I felt it would be better to just give it to the museam. This was long before mitchell took over the waterfront. It's been so long since Ive been onboard Im not sure if its still on display. Did you see my name in the display of hull plate contributors? It's number 120 of 318. 375 dollars and anyone can be a plate member. have you taken any trips on the Elissa? If so were and when? Joe Jim |

Joe ------------------------------------------------------- I was a member of the Elissa crew for three years, around 1995-1999. I sailed on the boat during its day trips each year, but I didn't get to make any of the longer voyages. I'll look for your bellows apparatus next time I'm at the museum. When I was on the crew I did climb the rigging under sail, walked out on the foot ropes, and helped unfurl the upper topsail and the T'Gallant in 20 knot winds. It's a magnificant view up there, and the ship has a "galloping" pitching motion that makes it even more exciting. As you point out, to be a member of the crew requires many hours of work and training throughout most of the year, and I didn't have the time to continue on the crew. - My usual job was to conduct guided tours of the boat on weekends. (Joe), to say: have you taken any trips on the Elissa? I had a few rides on a girl named Elissa. Does that count? |
