That is what I am using. They call it a "spun ceramic" which basically
means it is fiberglass... a special kind of fiberglass made for hi temp
and hi R rating instead of tensile strength. But then, most boat
building fiberglass is made to the specs for eelctrical insulation.
That's why S-glass is different stuff, more costly.

I was going to use the cheap stuff from JC Whitney but they didn't know
the temp rating of it. So I splurged on more pricey stuff that is
definitely rated above the needed service temp. But it's a PITA to
install in the crevices I've got to work in.

I think this might be the stuff I used, bought it at "Ramchargers", not the
sort of thing they carry in the local auto supply.

I had the distinct advantage of having the exhaust off the diesel, I can see
where it would be a real pita trying to wrap the thing in the engine

Do you have the Mini Supercharger on your boat?

If you put it THERE you'll get a nasty rash!

Cheers

No, this insulation is going on the exhaust pipe from the heater
combustion chamber.

Yes, that's the stuff. Comes in a couple different sizes & grades. I'm
using 2" wide tape in the hi temp rating (1800 continuous 2400 spikes)

Yes it is. Plus, the stuff gives off a fine dust as it is worked, best
not breathed. Of course, silica is all natural so how can it be bad for
you? ;)
