Sail NY harbor- advice?
 

I sail out of Atlantic City. This summer I would like to spend a few days
sailing around the NYC area. Are there safe anchorages? Cheap tieups?

Horseshoe Cove and Atlantic Highlands inside Sandy Hook. 79th Street Boat
Basin in Manhattan. City Island in LIS, Port Washington, Oyster Bay.

Most people avoid Chelsea Piers about 20 Street Manhattan Hudson River.

Several marinas accross from Manhattan in New Jersey, all with a rep of being
pricy.

I am not aware of any dinghy docks in Manhattan.

Sail NY harbor- advice?
 

The currents are VERY strong around Sandy Hook.
Time your approach to have the current with you
or stay far off the hook. Be sure to have a bail
out plan. If you are heading to the inner harbor
be smart and stay well of Sandy Hook.

Beware the banks of shoal areas in the outer harbor
when the chop builds, and it does--you might bottom out.

Atlantic Highlands has a nice harbor, with good
restaurants within walking distance, and good
looking waitresses.
