Do you think it could go up-wind?

Nice looking rig, but the square chined hull make it kinda ugly.

I like Bruces boats. And I hear good things about they spray model.

Paint it up like a pirate ship and it would make a nice tourist boat
for a summer bay sails. We have one here called the Jolly Roger but
it not Square rigged. I like to take RedCloud broadside to her in the
bay, just wish we had cannons.

Only if JAXAshby were at the helm.

Now that might be fun, after all sinking a boatload of tourists would be a big
plus in most locations. Or you could just load with grape ;)

However, looking at the thing from the standpoint of sailing performance... you
could make a better sailing vessel by turning an average storage shed upside
down, lining it with tarpaper, and ballasting it with gravel from your neighbors
driveway. A few bedsheets for sails, and it's Cape Horn Ho!

you are one of the few people who do.

The single Spray I was ever on had 600 gallons of fuel onboard, and needed the
engine to tack under any condition.

Well, in a previous posting, your favorite local pseudo-scientist and
mine, the inimitable Jax, stated that you can go upwind because of the
vector version of Zeno's Paradox. I quote:

__________

*If*, markie, you're still worried about the "lift" a sail produces,
do
consider that if you replace the dacron cloth with a sheet of plywood,
you
could still sail upwind.
And if you cut the size of the plywood in half, you could still sail
upwind
(well, I could). Cut it in half again, and still you could sail
upwind.

simply put, markie, ALL you need is a force vector off the bow by some
angle
and you have a resultant forward vector.
__________

So, you could buy that boat, add some plywood micro-sails and you're
good to go. Maybe Jax could recommend a good phlogiston-fuelled stove
for meal preparation. Refrigeration by Maxwell's daemon, of course.

Hell! Maybe, I should go bid on that hull! Could be an interesting
project.

Like what?

That it is a very dry sea worthy design. I like a large cockpit and lots
of room and the ability to keep dry.

Nice boat if the rolled the steel for the hull, I hate the looks of a square chine.

What sort of a Texan redneck are you? No cannons??? Hell, I have 5
muzzle loaders crated up for transport at the moment, courtesy of a
friend who owned an iron foundry.

Thanks for the link. I've seen a number of his designs.

Depends. A nicely shaped chine can define a hull, and be very handsome.
The Lightning, for example, is as pretty a boat as any. But on a
bluff-bowed boat like one of these, the chine is only going to make it
look boxier.

There are 2 Roberts Spray hulls in the marina around the corner from my
place. Chine hulls and they're ugly to my eyes. I like chine hulls, but
not those hulls at all.

Yea, there's nothing like the graceful chine of an International 110, very
reminiscent of a Concordia Yawl.
