or a satelite weather image receiver that shows current sea temps.

Yep, any boat racing in these tyrpes of curents MUST have a sea water
temp guage

You rely on high tech too much.
A temp guage gives instant recognition of the current

only within 2 feet of your boat. the satelite shows the water temp variations
for as far as might care to know. Just in case you want to take advantage of
conditions "over there a bit"

Maybe if Jax spent a bit more time figuring out his own position and a little
less time trying to figure out the "streams" position, he wouldn't get lost
rounding Hatteras, and could make use of the stream.

True, although we log temp every 10 minutes or so to ensure we stay
right in the guts of it after we find it.
Even the eddies will work for us when travelling against the normally
south flow.

Heh. I have a SeaSpace Corp Terascan system, another bit of gear Jax
has no hope of comprehending. I'm sure he'd like the pretty coloured
pictures tho.

Too much to do to spend time here for a while, I've just got my second
30' workboat back from Antarctica and it needs a solid field test
before we put it in the shed for a refurb. Have fun and now it's spring
in the Northern Hemisphere, how about going sailing instead of bitching
on the net?

First day of Spring = Saturday, March, 20. Yesterday it snowed 5'', 31*f,
and it's sleeting this morning.

Antarctica is not a "solid field test"?

my goodness but what a brave sailor you are. So knowledgeable you are too.

Ah come'on Jax, I'll bet that if you put that MENSA mind to work on the problem
you could probably come up with a reason for a field test on such a boat after such
an assignment, perhaps it's a concept beyond your abilities though?

Cheers
Marty
