As my way of saying goodbye....

On 9/11 Howard Stern was one of the few broadcasters, outside of the news
media, to stay on the air while members of his own staff evacuated the
building. He did this at the request of several senators and officials.
Throughout the 9/11 tragedy, which has NOT ended, he was a voice of reason,
rage and confusion. In short, he echoed what much of us felt.
I've heard Stern do a lot of bits and sketches that were offensive, funny, mean
spirited and plain disgusting. But If I didn't like something I'd simply tune
the dial elsewhere. He's not on at a time when children can listen and parents
should control this anyway. His humor is generally "adult" and his politics
liberal. If the "religious wrong" manages to get him shut down, he'll be missed
by many, myself included. He's the polar opposite of Rush, Cousin Brucie and a
long list of conservative bland broadcasting that provokes compliance and
conformity rather than independent thought.
When a whole country is "shocked" by a woman's exposed breast, you know things
have gone too far. Other countries, with far more liberal media (and far fewer
sexual assault cases) have learned that this sort of suppression is unhealthy.
Once again, the U.S.A. is a laughing stock, looking as religiously dangerous
and radical as members of God's Army.
I'm convinced that Stern will find another venue for his material and politics,
but everyone who likes the novel idea of free speech should be writing letters
to the FCC and congress. I'm asking you to NOT lie back and expect intelligence
and freedom to prevail. There are people who want to systematically strip away
your rights by way of legally limiting your choices...while still calling it
freedom. "They" can't sleep at night because they are worried what you will do
with your own body and mind. "They" can't rest because they are worried about
who your sexual partner is. And "They" certainly can't live their own lives
when a voice like Stern's approves of gay marriage, abortion, civil rights
while openly satirizing the religious right.
Get mad, folks. Take action. Write a letter. Don't let these ****ing moronic
maniacs tell you how to breath, then try to tax it!

Again, enjoy your season of sailing.

Thanks for a bit of reason. In Europe we're still laughing at all the fuss
over a boob. What a weird country where exposure of a woman's breast creates
such a fuss, yet prime time television is full of violence and guns. Sex is
healthy and good for you, getting your head blown off by a gun is rather
unhealthy and bad for the spirit. It seems obvious to me which should be
censored more - but I know that America disagrees...

It is rather odd that we would encourage our children to enjoy what is
argueably one of the most violent sports (football) they freak out because
they were exposed to an organ intended to feed children with. Jeeze, have
we forgotten why women have breasts? It's ALMOST as stupid as the gun
phobia that infects Europe. US burgulars ply their trade when victims are
out because they know that we are armed and will eagerly shoot them but Euro
criminals prefer to rob occupied dwellings because they know you are
psychologically incapable of self defense. Different strokes for .....

It must suck having to lug a gun with you everywhere in the US for
"self-defence". I hate even having to carry a cell-phone. What a restriction

It really isn't the gun that is so bad. The bulletproof vest and the
bandoliers of ammunition do chafe and get hot in the summer,

What a weird country where exposure of a woman's breast creates
such a fuss,

It was not the display of janets hooter. It was her sticking out in
front of millions of children.

yet prime time television is full of violence and guns.

Expected violence and guns, If parents object to kids seeing violence
and guns they can chose other programming. If we knew Janet was going
to flash us with her decorated augmented leather bound bossum, we
would of sent little Jane or Dick to the other room during the
halftime slut show.

Sex is
healthy and good for you,

Who said it was not good and healthy?
The diffrence is between the Sex and the Sleeze.

Americans are sexy. Guess what Europeans are?

getting your head blown off by a gun is rather

Thats correct O brainiac. We would raise a fuss if during the
SuperBowl halftime Janet blew her head off~~~~just not as much a fuss.

We do not like any censorship, We expect more of our public preformers
than to flash us at the Superbowl. Most see it as a washed up singer
trying to create a scandal. This type of action is back firing just
ask the Dixie Bitches.

Why on earth do you imagine that children have never seen a woman's boob
before? What do you imagine they sucked on when they were little? And why on
earth do you imagine it damaging for children to see a woman's breast?

The weird US attitude to women's breasts probably explains the social
pressure on young women in US to have entirely unhealthy silicon implants.

John Cairns March 10th 04 08:15 PM

Actually, gun ownership in the US isn't as widespread as you might think.
Vito also misses one very important fact, most of the stolen weapons on the
streets of the US come from.......drum roll please.........home
burglaries!!!!!!! guns, especially handguns, being portable, valuable and
easy to sell. This myth about self-defense is simply something tossed out by
the NRA to promote gun ownership. The responsible handgun owner has his
weapon locked and unloaded, a burglar comes in the house(generally unarmed,
most states in the US have fairly draconian penalties associated with the
use of a firearm in the commission of a felony) and the homeowner is
supposed to unlock the weapon, load it and capture the burglar?
BWAHAHAHAHHAHA. Burglars target unoccupied dwellings because......another
drumroll please......it increases their likelihood of NOT GETTING CAUGHT.
Real simple stuff. The alternative, keeping an unlocked loaded gun in the
house increases the chance of little Billy blowing his own or his friends
brains out, as the authorities in this major metropolitan area(Detroit) will
sadly confirm. Or, in the worst case scenario, getting those gun(s) and
going somewhere and massacring half of the school. Oh well, just the price
to pay if you want to live in the greatest, freest country on the planet.

You mean you don't all start shooting each other as soon as you have a row
over a hamburger? C'mon, you're pulling my leg, we have documentaries like
Starsky & Hutch on the telly here in France about life in Amerika and they
always pull out their guns after tops a couple of minutes of dialogue.

I once emailed the NRA expressing concern that I couldn't prebook over the
internet for pick up at Miami airport a decent rifle to defend myself whilst
I took my family to Disneyland, adding that if possible I would like
lightweight handguns for my two children (aged 4 and 6) and a
grenade-launcher for my wife. They sent me back a very nice email saying
that I made a very valid point and said they had forwarded it to some
congressman or other for consideration.

Sorry, John, gotta disagree with you. A consumer boycott is not
censorship. AFAIK the US govt hasn't banned the Dixies' songs,
performances et al.

I boycott Greenpeace and their ilk because I think they're mainly
wrong, pretty wholly dishonest and becoming part of the problem. I'm
not calling for them to be banned, tho.

Not quite...I live in Texas and I need something for protection while
I am reloading. My grandfather was a rancher who always carried two
handguns in his truck. I once asked him why he needed two. He
replied that if someone managed to take one away from him and stick it
up his ass, he needed another one to blow it out with:)

Never heard of them so I guess the answer is no. Censorship is amusing
in a way; one group want you to stop looking at/reading about sex and
the other about weapons, as a broad generalisation.

I manage to live very happily without a TV or radio and listen to music
