No Thank You,

In my youth, I worked on around that water. I when on a fishing
schooner that had no electric power on board, so needless to say no
radio (but in those days that was no surprize). Weather could come on
us with less than a day warning. So, when things started to look bad
cook would take at least a loaf of bread, cut it in thick slabs, lay
each up with a coat of peanut butter and stick it to the stainless steel
flashing around the stove. We called them chokers. If you got hungry,
it was up to you to peel a piece for yourself (as the kid, I would
sometimes fetch for the watch). That and apple juice from a can that
had usually started to rust - pierced with your own marlin spike - were
sometimes what we had for three days.

I still don't choose peanut butter or apple juice.

When I was on the U.S.S. Boyd, DD544, we had a cook who would put out a 5
lb can of peanut butter and several loaves of bread as the midwatch rations.
One would grab a handful of bread and scoop the wad through the peanut
butter on the way to watch. The cook's nick name was Butter-ball.

Perfect! Except that it belongs on Rye Bread!

That's one of those combinations that nobody believes is good until they try it.

I'll have to try that. The seeds and extra crunchy must add a whole
dimension!

Many years ago, Skippy Peanut butter ran a contest, looking for
diferent peanut butter sandwich combo's. One of the finalists was
Peanutbutter and Swiss Cheese with letttuce on Rye Toast. Actually
very tasty and the lettuce keeps it from sticking to the roof of your
mouth.
