Between the 3 story buildings? This picture was taken in 1995 when I
first bought RedCloud. Today we are on the slip on the east side
between the same buildings.

If you look real close you can see my 1966 Mustang in the parking lot.

Lets see your slip. Terraserver most likely has a picture.

If you look at the bottom center of the image, you'll see two rows of finger
slips.
My boat would be on the top-most of the two, about five slips down from the
small slip bridge. Unfortunately, my boat wasn't there in 1993.

The big building on the left of the picture, is Anderson's Boat Yard, which
does
all our hauling. You can see the big travel lifts.

This is from 1993, before our boat was here, but this is where it is
now. Zooming out a couple of steps gives a much better idea of what the
area is like for sailing & cruising.

Why the sudden change to sailing without political pontification?

The location explains a lot.

Looks like a nice spot. When looking for waterfront property to build
on I saw quite a few bargians in oriental NC. Ever been there?

Yep. The state is currently building a 4-lane highway out to Oriental.
Guess those real estate agents who make big campaign contributions don't
really have much voice...

Oriental is a summer-home and retiree city. It has skyrocketed in the
past ten years. However it is still sold as an "undiscovered little
sleepy Southern village" or a "quaint old fashioned fishing & farming
community." It is in a pretty nice sailing location, especially for
vessels with 5' draft or less. It's near the ICW but not to the ocean.

I've been told there are 15,000 boat slips in Oriental, but this i
probably an exaggeration. At one time it was said to have the highest
number of circumnavigators per capita of any city in the world, which
might have been true since I know about a dozen who live or used to live
there.

Personally if I were looking to buy waterfront property in NC I'd go
near Elizabeth City (further north) or maybe Marshallberg (just east of
Beaufort & Morehead City). They are just as nice for sailing and more
convenient to the ocean.

Yes. Often go to Mitchells landing were the Elisa is docked, nice
resturants. The usually go thru the pelican island bridge on the way
to offets bayou. Its a great place to anchor overnight in Galveston,
It's right next to 61 street.
