If I should fall over while singlehanding, I will have with me a working
(waterproof, floating) GPS and a working waterproof, floating) VHF handheld in
addition to an epirb. You'd be amazed at how much help they will be in such a
situation. Damn, even my flashlight floats!!!

Sometimes you have to watch those manufacturer's claims, I have a Magellan 315
that most assuredly floats. However it most assuredly does NOT float if the data/power
cable is attached! I also have a Magellan SporTrak Map, I haven't tried dropping
it in the water yet so I can't tell you if it lives up to the advertising claims.

Alright...I have an Icom M1v, but it will sink like a rock.

Bob, if you are worried get one of the radio harnesses the wind
surfers use to hold the radio strapped to their chests. If you
float you'll have a radio, if you sink you won't need one.

Well it certainly won't work unless you run the lines.

But he could run the lines in a jiffy, if he needed them.

Tell us something, Martin....is it possible to reef without the jiffy reefing
setup?

What's that got to do with you not knowing how to make it work?

Sound advice indeed, unless you don't have a clue what
you are doing. ;-o
