The show was doing poorly up until Saturday. It was REALLY packed. I bought a
new Gill Jacket, sail ties and one of those flashlights that you shake to
charge (Nightstar) for just 29 bucks. Spoke to the Tartan/C&C folk a bit (They
offered me 35K for Alien if I signed for a new C&C 99...LOL!) and visited the
Hunter DS 43 or 44(?), a very spacious boat that is less offensive on the water
than earlier boats. The raised effect of the main cabin was minimal, but the
interior was well done for her purposes and the quality seemed better than the
Beneteau. Marc says one of these outran a badly sailed C&C 37XL
LONG lines for the Tartan and Sabre boats as usual. The newest version of the
Mac was there with a small crowd puzzling over it. Dark awlgrip failed to class
it up.
West Marine was selling their baseline binoculars with compass for 139.00...a
good price, and just about everything was 10% off. Overall not too many great
deals around. I got the Key West Jacket and sailing gloves for 195.00, which is
a pretty good price.

I thought of getting a Nightstar. How's it? Any good? or is it just a toy?

It seems pretty usefull, but the blue light is no where near the brightness of
a regular flashlight. I doubt I'd use it as a main unit, but for an emergency
it's great. Shake for about 30-40 seconds and you have reasonable light for 10
minutes or more. They claim 20...maybe with more shaking. It's a nifty item and
they were going for 29 bucks at the boat show. I bought a 2nd one as a gift for
my father.
The switch also glows in the dark and the unit appears pretty weatherproof.
They also claim that you can make a compass with it, by balancing it somehow.

Did you get the optional martini attachment?

Did you happen to notice if the new Sabre 38' boat was there?

I think Sabre only had one boat there and I didn't go near it because of the
long line. It might have been a new hull....not sure. People certainly were
dying to get aboard.

Probably a good thing. All that extra weight would probably add a
month or more to a 3 day cruise.
