What I drove today!

I drove a Brabham Repco at the East Hampton race track. My first set of laps
I got it up to 140 mph. After a few pointers from Stirling Moss I got it up
to 173 mph!

Not bad for a car nearly 40 years old.

Did he also drive a bush pram?

Jack Brabham lived across the road from my mum.
His dad was the local butcher.

You should know that since you drive one of those imitation cars.

Still waiting for you to post a picture of it with Suzanne behind the
wheel.

I will in the spring. We've removed the engine for SB and repaint and then
redoing the dash. PO messed with it. The car is otherwise perfect and original.
How about pic of Suzzy in our Alpha?

So much for claims that the car is 97 points.

It is 97 points. We won't use the car for shows, so I'm adding a new dash
(keeping the original of course). Also swapping out the steering wheel.
Repainting the engine because of some bubbling and it was gauranteed. We plan
to drive the car, so the 97 points sure won't last.
Now I'm looking for a deal on a MGA twincan or Austin Healy 3000 down the road.

Alpha? You must mean ALFA! Boy, you sure do know cars!!!

Oh my!!! No, Alpha is not an Italian car, genius.
She does own an early 80's AR as well, which is probably why you're so
confused.

Good lord! Why not just beg to see the pic?

Which one?

Graduate edition. I had a Spider Veloce at one point, but I traded it for a
chrome bumpered MGB with twin carbs.

Graduate edition?
WTF is that?

It was a version made in the 80's without the rounded trunk, meant to tie in
with the film The Graduate where Dustin Hoffman drove the car. Kinda silly and
a terribly slow car in the heavily de-smogged American version.
I have a pic with Suzanne driving, but Billy Jane doesn't want to see it! He
also won't answer you on the Subaru issue.

Bwahahahaha! That's funny, Donal! My father is 66 and he's "doing up cars"

as
well. His current project: Split window Vette.

So you admit that you come from a real working class background. Are you
from an ethnic minority?

Funny, a BMC Dealer I worked for offered me a pristine TF-1500 for $350
but I turned it down and bought a DOHC MGA instead. In retrospect I
should have bought the Fiat Abarth Zagato Sprint Special or the stage 4
Arnolt Bristol Bolide or ....

Hope you didn't pay more than $350 for the TF. (c:

Not too far or fast I hope. The flexable cranks in the pre-MGA motors
fatigued rapidly at freeway speeds/rpm. Enjoy it on the kinds of roads
it was designed for and it'll give you a lot of fun.

Now I'm looking for a deal on a MGA twincan or Austin Healy 3000 down the road.

Gawd you are a glutton for punishment!

If you get a 'cammer' be sure the tappet holes in the head are sleeved
and the matching late model tappets installed, else the tappets hang in
the aluminum, the pistons hit the valves and BANG. Similarly do NOT rev
it over 7000 despite it's eagerness to do so unless you use Castrol *R*
40 or a modern synthetic equivalent (Dinosaur blood can't get rid of
bearing heat fast enough). Stock MGA handling was called "Safety Fast" -
the chassis heeled over on the outside front and lifted the inside rear
wheel preventing speed increases or, unfortunately, "drifting". Install
a posi rear if you can still find one, lower the rear by re-arching the
springs and add the optional HD front roll bar so she'll lean on the
outside rear and pick up the inside front in true Brit fashion. The posi
alone was worth 6 sec/lap on the old Riverside (CA) course.

The 100-4 Healy was a far better car than the later models which stuffed
a 6 into the chassis and the 3000 was a poor performing Brit T-Bird.
BTW there were a few 'real' Le Mans models built - look for RHD with
integral headrest, a gas tank that fills the whole ass end, 4W disks,
etc.

Good luck!

FWIW Hollywood SC's Doan Spencer prep'd 'B dyno'd 140+ HP in stock SCCA
(OK Cal Club) production tune. Ate "Poaches" and solid-axle Vettes.
