I was reading a boat reviewer and I can't remember about what boat but the
reviewer mentioned a newer system rather than gelcoat for the hull finish
and mentioned how much better than gelcoat it was. He said it was being used
on a few sportfishers and the sailboat building industry had yet to catch
on. Can't remember the name of the material mentioned. Any one heard of this
newer material and the name?

Are you talking about vinylester? It's still not as good a barrier to water
permeability as epoxy. Gelcoat is just a mix of polyester resin & wax. It's main
benefit to the boat is that it takes a gloss & it's cheap (although this
benefits the boatbuilder more than the owner)

As far as I know Epoxy is more waterproof, but I would like to learn
something new.
If You think Vinylester is better, could you back your view point with some
references ?

Vinyl Ester is waaay better than the old resins.
Much less prone to moisture absorption and IIRC less brittle.

Thank you, interesting reference:
Do you agree on this conclusion ?
Epoxy more waterproof than vinylester but more expensive.
Vinylester more expensive and more waterproof than polyester.

This morning after a thirty mile bike ride, the return
fifteen miles of which was against 20-30 knot headwinds,
I weighed myself on the supermarket scale and was a
lean and mean 173 pounds (down from 197 a month ago)
and my BP was 109/67. There ain't no way even Chloe
Anderson could cause my BP to raise enough to flunk

Peter,

I don't have the answer for you but I'm in the process of getting it for

let you know in about 5 yrs. It sure was a great looking job!

What company did you get your vinyl paint from.

I used to use Woolsey Super Vinylast but they
don't make it any more. I like Vinyl for the
scrubability factor alone plus the colors seem
brighter and they don't fade.

The only real trouble with vinyl is you can only
paint certain kinds of paint on top of it without
it bubbling up. It generally has to be sanded or
scraped off before applying regular paints to it.

I had to buy a special gallon of paint to cover the
old vinyl before applying the Petit paint this last
time. It is designed to 'fix' the vinyl paint against
being lifted by the regular paints. It wasn't cheap.

Is this really true? I think the partition coefficient is probably
comparable. The key to osmosis resistance is not the water barrier but
the lack of voids that can be filled with solutes...

Assuming Lady Pilot really does fly commercial aircraft
you have to ask yourself when's the last time you saw
a female commercial pilot who was younger than middle
age and did not look like a bull dyke? I have yet to see
one who is anything but very thick around the middle,
has a butch haircut, facial hair, dried-up complexion,
and heavy cigarette habit all combined with a military
manner unbecoming of a woman.

LP gets her ego stroked by posting anonymously on the
newsgroups because in real life she gets little more
than being treated just like one of the guys. Nobody
is going to be sexually attracted to a woman who looks
and acts like a man. I sort of feel sorry for her.

Not at all. I've worked out in the gym on and off since 1974. I could
