Damn there goes another sailing weekend 45 knots mean wind speed and up=20
to 60 mm in 24 hours! At least you didn't have snow on the ground when you woke up this = morning. Glad we got the sails off last weekend...this weekend is going = to be a real stinker...leaves still green with hardly any fall color yet = andGaylord had 5 inches last night...Marquette had 2 but they're in the = Up so that doens't count....Chanteuse comes out next week. We were = hoping to get 2 more coats of varnish on this weekend but that looks = like it's out...blah..... --=20 katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. ![]() Wimp! I can tell you don't have double reef points on your mainsail custom designed to reduce your sail area to that of a storm trysail on the deepest reef like I do. Combine this deeply reefed mainsail with my custom storm jib and I could sail comfortably in forty-five knots sustained. I have to wonder about the seaworthiness of Ella. S.Simon - has what it takes to sail in any wind condition and to survive a storm at sea. Until those sewn-on reef points pull right off the sail, then you are in trouble. Get a local sailmaker to install proper cringles for the reefs. |

They are proper and up to the task.
Consider this: The area of the full sail is 134 square feet. The first reef point is four feet from the tack and the second is eight feet from the tack. The fully reefed sail has about fifty square feet of area. Fifty square feet is not enough to rip out that webbing and that's a fact. Why, I handle fifty square feet sails when I'm windsurfing in thirty to forty knots and my arms have yet to rip off and I bet that webbing and reinforcing patching is stronger than my arms. Get a life. S.Simon "SkitchNYC" wrote in message ... Wimp! Get a local sailmaker to install proper cringles for the reefs.
Then get the same sailmaker to install proper sails around them! RB |

Neal,
How does your Double reef effect the sea surface? Do you need a wet suit at the Tiller like when you are surf sailing? I tell you something. We could sure use some of that air here in Bellingham. We have been in the Damnist Air Inversion for a week. Plenty of Fog and Damn little wind or even a steady breeze. OT |

You are correct. I'd don't have double reef points like a coastal
cruiser. I have 3 sets of reef points as an ocean going vessel should. Cheers MC Simple Simon wrote: Wimp!
