What's with mast wedges.

Reading Booby and Mooron's latest little skirmish
it dawned on me how primitive a system it is to
still prop up a mast with wooden wedges in this
day and age when practically the entire boat is
made of GRP. Why not get rid of inferior, rot-
prone wood and use wedges made of Starboard
plastic that would last a lifetime? That's what
I'd do if I had an inferior, old-fashioned, keel-
stepped, leak prone through the coach roof
system like Booby has. Don't nurse a problem;
eliminate it instead. Anyone ever think of that?

S.Simon - can't abide inferior systems

| Been using plastic wedges for 15 years at least.

I understand that you can tell if they're suffering internal rot by poking
the fine edge with a blade. :-D

| No need, I just replace the blocks every time I break a mast :-)

Ha Ha Ha.... I was just thinking that if Bob had found a loose Chock...
could a jury rigged repair be done by removing the old wedge and pounding
one in from the inside up??
