Troyes, I suspect he wasn't Australian.


He was hardly invented by Chrétien de Troyes. He turns up in Welsh legends
that predate Chrétien by several hundred years, and he's mentioned in
passing in Y Gododdin, which is probably about 6th century AD.


Yes, but the semi-historical/legendary Arthur has been superseded for
everybody but a few scholars by the fictional French fellow. Not much
but the name and association with Britain remained.
