Carrier Landing Unlike any Other
I've flown in both VMA and VMF squadrons in the Corps with over 750 carrier
landings. I also hold the record for the southernmost carrier landing. Care to guess what latitude? My most memorable carrier landing was when we were deploying out of Norfolk aboard the Nimitz. I had leave when it depolyed so I wouldn't be catching up with the ship until Naples. I figured I'd see the ship out in my private plane, a Cessna 172 at the time. I caught her three miles offshore and buzzed the island. I got the CAG on the com and jokingly asked permission to do a few touch and goes on the flight deck. He said since no planes were aboard I could have a go at it. They brought the ship up to 35 knots into a 25 knot wind. I could just about hover over the deck. I actually landed four times on the deck, rolled to a stop and easily took off. That's right, four unarrested carrier landings in a row. Another Naval Aviation record! I flew back to Manassas and caught up with the ship two weeks later in Naples by taking a MAC flight. The flight room was full of pictures of the 172 landing and taking off. My fellow aviators were quite taken back by my aeronautical prowess. Jax |

The way this works is you just leave them the way they are for a while, whilst continuing to poke them continuously. Eventually, a few will fall by th ewayside, leaving only the truly hardcore loons like Donal, Simple Simon and Co left (we're pretty much most of the way there already) one of those twits will eventaully realise that what they are doing to each other is worse than anything that we ever did and start lashing out like the loon he is (not dissimilar to the scenario that got us here in the first place, more more distilled, if you like) Eventaully, they'll form alliances amongst themselves, or group together to try and defeat us. They'll come up with "identities" for us and try and go RL to purge ASA of us and that, my friend, is well worth the wait. It can take months, or even years, but it's quite a spectacle when it comes to fruition. I need to pay more attention reading those time stamps I guess... Yes, and I've been gone for 24 hours again. You mean you don't constantly await my every post? Gee, no one ever told me that I was supposed to...but few ever tread there. :) Have they worked out yet that I live in the UK? Well, I wasn't looking, but since you mentioned it, do you know Steve Leyland? Not personally, but if ever he's in Somerset he's welcome to visit - as long as he has a haircut first. Hehee. I've seen his picture; I could never date a man with longer hair than my own. :-) Do long beards count? Steve is one of the good guys. I would definitely agree. Months or years, I'm staying anyway. There's no group quite as good as this one. Even if I don't stick around? Hmmm. I'd still see you in AUK Only if Bertie cross-posted there... That would be very naughty of Bertie. or alt.config occasionally, surely? I haven't been there since what 1998? Do you remember me from then? No, but somebody said something that suggested you were a reg. WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY? I've been assuming I knew you with a different posting handle. [relevant groups added] chuckle Not to mention important! LP (You know I will go to cross-posting hell for this, right?) Crossposting is *good*. "Peter J Ross" asked with much curiosity: On Sun, 24 Aug 2003 02:58:40 GMT, a team of surgeons from alt.fan.pjr removed the following benign growth from Lady Pilot: Hehee. I've seen his picture; I could never date a man with longer hair than my own. :-) Do long beards count? Well, considering the fact that I don't have a beard, there wouldn't be any competition. ;-) I'd still see you in AUK Only if Bertie cross-posted there... That would be very naughty of Bertie. Goes without saying... I haven't been there since what 1998? Do you remember me from then? No, but somebody said something that suggested you were a reg. Someone on usenet talked about me? Tell me it isn't so!!! LOL! WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY? I've been asked that at least a dozen times in the last few days. hehee I've been assuming I knew you with a different posting handle. Ya just never know... [relevant groups added] chuckle Not to mention important! LP (You know I will go to cross-posting hell for this, right?) Crossposting is *good*. Did you know that everybody in the world is only seven degrees of crossposting apart? No, I didn't know; how do you come up with those figures? LP |
