Just a few photos from my trip to bring Overproof back to Shag Bay from
Prospect where I was doing some diving for my friend who owns the marina there. I believe someone asked about "lee shores"... I put in a photo to display what the coastline looks like. Nice shots of the entry into Shag Bay and the Gull Rocks. A nice shot of my "dinghy".. an 18 foot single hand Dory. I saw what I believe to be a competitor in the Marblehead Race... taking some R&R at the hook in Prospect. I even included one for MC of my display on the log.... ;-D http://community.webshots.com/user/overproof CM |

Hank ons are the mark of a Pro...... or someone too poor to afford R/F.... ;-D After years of hank ons and lack of self tailers... I'm getting to a point of considering running my current forestay to the tip of the bowsprit and adding a removable inner stay. I thought about R/F on the forestay and hank on self tending on the inner. I have just a tiny bit of weather helm and I think I could make the changes without increasing it too much. I'm also considering going to larger size self tailing winches.... | Good Photoshop job on the speedometer, too. No alterations Cappy..... I was on a broad reach. The WX channel stated 10 to 15 kts. The sea state sort of confirms it. I was trying to get the display when it showed 8.2 kts.... damn that delay on the digital camera. I was averaging about the speed shown for most of the sail. I didn't get much past 5.5 knots on the reach out of Prospect. I was flying my 150 and full main... with the prop locked and towing a 500 lb Dory. CM |

Thanks John..... it's a great place to sail around here. I've got the best
of both worlds to play in.... open ocean or deep bays and harbours with Islands and lots of quiet anchorages. It's great to spend some time on the ocean and sail back to a scenic harbour to have dinner at one of the many seaside restaurants. Well YEAH.... I took a wild guess with a chance of probability about as
remote as your boat achieving 8.5 knots up wind. Even so.... it's nowhere near the speeds reported by Bob on that C&C 32 rocket cruiser. You wouldn't stand a chance against him in a race. "Capt. Mooron" wrote in message ... Well YEAH.... I took a wild guess with a chance of probability about as remote as your boat achieving 8.5 knots up wind. Honestly, it *did*, once! It was fantastic. At the end of a cross channel trip, the wind went around to the NW. The water was flat, and Setanta behaved like a great big dinghy. You will *never* experience the thrill of doing 8.5 kts upwind in a crab crusher. 12 kts with the wind on the beam is NOTHING compared to 8.5 upwind. We were whooping and cheering like there was no tomorrow! Even so.... it's nowhere near the speeds reported by Bob on that C&C 32 rocket cruiser. You wouldn't stand a chance against him in a race. Thank gawd for you he doesn't race eh? That's true. Bob has one fast boat!!! Regards Donal -- |
