You are waaay too pessimistic.

I prefer to think that Bush and Blair are the only two liars!

I used to work with a salesman who would always do a favour for any
prospective customer. He didn't weigh up the odds of getting a return on
his investment, because the favours usually cost him nothing. Whenever a
favour was returned, it tended to be *big*. I learned a lot from that guy.

You need less than 1% of favours to be returned, to show a profit.
