Practical sailor just did a glowing review of the Carl Schumacher
designed Express 27. Any relation to the Express 30? The Article mentions two other Schumacher designes, the Express 34 and 37. |

Any relation to the Express 30? The Article
mentions two other Schumacher designes, the Express 34 and 37. The Express 27 is a true race boat with a history and heritage of note. The Express 30 and 35 are barely known footnotes by comparison. RB |

"Marc" wrote in message ... Practical sailor just did a glowing review of the Carl Schumacher designed Express 27. Don't believe the review. I'd really like to read a review that said that a boat was crap. I've never seen a review that said "This boat really sucks." It can't be just advertising money, because even when they review old boats from manufacturers that no longer exist, they still paint them in a positive light. Regards Donal -- |

The present (Jul. 1, 2003) issue of "Practical Sailor" features the
Express 27 in a review the theme of which is to the effect this is a "legendary" boat "both of and ahead of its time" which "pro[ves] that quality keeps its value": Many people have heard of the Express 27. It WAS ahead of it's time. The Express 30 was not because the J30 beat it and is still prefered. (I actually prefer the Express for it's friendly cockpit). The other thing that hurt the Express 30 was her looks, awkward to say the least, matched by the J30 and the C&C Mega. The J-30 name, performance, and beautifully finished cabin made her a success, while the Mega and Express died deaths hardly pondered these days. The fact that J30's and Express 27's are still popular one design racers highlights the failure of the Express 30. Perhaps Steve or Loco can provide info as to why a serious raceboat like the E30 used a masthead. A local school a few years back actually changed theirs to a fractional, though little Stevey thought it was made-up cuz I never photographed her. Finally, consider that a mid 80's J-30 costs more by far than the dead Express 30. Sailors know the better boat, it would seem...just as my C&C 32 costs more! RB |

"Jeff Morris" jeffmo@NoSpam-sv-lokiDOTcom wrote in message ... Practical Sailor has no advertising at all. While I don't always agree with them, they don't pull their punches (much) on their product reviews. Their boat reviews are generally favorable , but I think they tend to pick boats with good reputations. Plus, its not very often that you hear someone claim their boat sucks. True. Are the reviews written by owners? BTW, I've never heard Bob say that his boat sucks, yet we've seen the photos! Regards Donal -- |

Very nice attempt, too bad it was ineffective.

Well, thanks for reading anway! RB |

A local school a few years back actually changed theirs to
a fractional, Proves nothing even if true. I have a sailmaker friend who changed his Kirby 30 to a masthead rig for more speed. Why do some Hobie 33 & Laser 28 owners switch to a masthead chute? S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" Trains are a winter sport |
