Our (central Ohio) ski club went skiing at dawn on January 1st, 1980 to win
a friendly bet against a fellow club, on who was going to be in the water
first that year.
There was about a 1/4-1/2 of ice on the reservoir, which we broke up first
before skiing (ski boats are actually good ice breakers). We had a bathroom
tub, which we filled with hot water to soak our wetsuits in before venturing
out. I (like most) did a dock start and finish to stay out of the water, but
some weren't so lucky...out of the 12 of us who skied, 3 or 4 took the
"plunge".
We won the bet...the other club had no clue what we were up to, until it was
too late.
Anybody else ever broke ice with their boat?
