Default Autopilot Failure

Hi!

This is my first visit to this group. I recently purchased a 1995 32'
Albemarle Express Fisherman boat. It has a Robertson AP3000X autopilot
installed. This past weekend, While running back in from a day of fishing,
the autopilot display began to blink on and off and eventually went blank as
if it had lost all power. It eventually did come back on for a few minutes
and would display the rudder position as usual, but wouldn't engage. That
lasted for a few minutes then went blank again.

I feel pretty sure that I have some sort of intermittent power
problem...maybe a broken or corroded wire, since it was coming on and off
again. I looked behind the instrument panel, but found nothing that was
obviously broken or corroded.

Does anyone else have any experience with this unit and have any ideas of
things I should check before calling a mechanic and spending lots of $$$$
troubleshooting it?

Thanks to all who reply!

Gary
