View Full Version : Price for paddle?

So, given the entertainingly long thread on the carbon-fiber paddle above,
what should I ask if I want to sell my 230 cm wood (Ash, I think) bending
branches 2-piece paddle? It's in good condition. Standard scratches, but
with the resin tips, it hasn't been significantly damaged. Any ideas? It's
too long. I'd like to try something 10-15 cm shorter.

What model Bending Branches?
Since BB makes a variety of wood double blades, from relatively
economical beginner/rec type sticks to fairly pricey 21-laminate works
of art, knowing the original or current retail price would be helpful
in pondering a fair used price.
Post the model and someone will come up with the current MSRP.

Depends! How fast you wanna sell it? If you want to sell it fast, price
ot low. But not too low, or people may become suspicious that there is
something wrong with it. And if you are *not* very anxious to sell it,
price it high. Find out what a brand new one is going for, and I'd
figure 75% of the best retail price for a new one would be a good
starting point, all other things being equal. If, like photobuff, you
are going to include a perk like shipping, state that explicitly as a
sales point, and give an estimation of how much that will cost, so the
buyer can explicitly see what the price for the paddle is alone, and how
much is gonna be for shipping. Otheriwse, you may get some smartass like
me saying, "Bah! Too much! I'll give you $100 for it!" ;-)

Oh, NEVER denigrate your own product! Never say 'it's too long', just
stick with something 100% positive, like "I love it, but I'm wanting to
get into something a little shorter." Yano? Salesmanship! :-)

All right; I looked up the info, and here it is. Any ideas on price? It's a
1996 or 1997. I can't find any price info on the BB website:
Bending Branches, Tailwind model (this is the flagship of their wood
performance line, not the touring/recreational line). Info from the web page
is sampled here:
21 Laminate Shaft
A stiffer and stronger 21-ply laminate shaft found on many of our
performance paddles use. All our shafts are oval for comfort and control
while giving the greatest strength to weight ratio possible. Nothing matches
the beauty, balance, feel and performance of wood. A wood paddle is
comfortable on your hands, regardless of temperature.
Composite Ferrule
Our composite couplers are extremely light and strong. We use stainless
steel clips that will not rust or corrode. Feathering is adjustable to 0 or
60 degrees, left or right hand control. We test each ferrule set for fit,
feathering angle, breakdown ease and joint tightness. You won't feel "play"
in the joint as you paddle. The UltimateT Ferrule features precision
machined carbon composite tubing.
Rockgard®
Rockgard® gives paddles more life. Bending Branches® pioneered and
extensively tested this impact resistant resin technology to reduce damage
from rocks and water.
Any pricing suggestions appreciated.
